Do you clip bolts, plug cams, stack pads, or crush ice?
I tend to excel on technical alpine terrain; although climbing steep ice, clean cracks, and weeny sport routes are pretty darn fun as well.
How long have you been an athlete with La Sportiva?
I've always used Sportiva boots and rock shoes since starting to climb 18 years ago. I believe that this is my 3rd year on the team.
What are some of your lifetime climbing goals?
To be continually challenged, in the present, and supportive of everyone who is making an honest effort. I'd like to do the 6 Great North Faces of the Alps in a season.
Do you have a claim to fame?
Come on, everyone knows who I am and why.
Do you have any vices?
I like scotch, fine wine, good cigars, southern belles, and very large canines. Not sure any of those really count. Gave up the Skoal a few years back, though on 24 hour drives to Canada I am tempted to jump off the wagon.
What makes you tick as a climber and in the real world?
Learning the Truth.
What drives you to climb? The money? The groupies? The fame? What?
The people. The places. The personal challenge.

Idaho, it actually has no meaning.
What did you have for lunch yesterday?
Turkey and Ham, its the day after Thanksgiving.
If you could hook up a thought monitor to your head, would you see pictures, hear words or would music be playing?
MUSIC. Lately I find myself singing songs from Sesame Jamboree as I crux out. Used to be Led Zeppelin or Blue Highway, but kids change more than you might think.
What really scares you about climbing?
The incredible power of the mountains, and their ability to take everything away in an instant. Even when you think you've been doing things "right".
If your life was made into a movie, what would it be called?
Lost in Transition.
Where would you live if it could be anywhere in the world?
Val Di Gardena, Italy.
Have no food or have no gasoline?
