The Ouray Ice Festival is the Grandaddy of all the ice fests. It is an amazing event to watch this sleepy hamlet turn into a bustling international menagerie of Schoeller and steel.
If you are new to climbing, you can go to the Upper Bridge, get outfitted and learn to climb, for free! There's a climbing college on Sat. and Sun. where kids and adults can get a taste of ice climbing. There will be 80 small clinics hosted by San Juan Mountain Guides featuring some of the best athletes in climbing. You could work with Steve House, IFMGA Guide Dale Remsberg, or Clint Cook just to name a few. With free gear, climbing and boot demos, a snowshoe race, slide shows, parties, hundreds of public climbing routes, and the local hot springs to soak in after climbing- Does it get any better?
